Marketing consulting services

A choice of services to solve your situation, each with a fixed scope and a fixed price.

You know what it costs before anything starts, and you own every account in your own name.

If you are still working out whether you need a consultant at all, or what one should cost, read hiring a marketing consultant first. This page assumes you have got past that.

Where to start

Three ways to begin

Most people can describe what is happening but not why. Working that out is my job, not something you need to solve first.

Start with the problem, not the service

Most marketing sites list services, but that is only useful if you already know which one you need. These are the situations people actually describe when they call me.

01

I want to grow

When the business is fine but growth has flattened.

I've grown on referrals but that's not working now

The business is fine, the website is old, you have never run ads, and growth has flattened because you have run out of people who already know you. This is the most common version of a business that is doing well and has no idea where the next customer comes from.

1 hour marketing consult →

I've been quoted for a website, is it worth it?

A quote tells you what it costs, not what you get. The questions that matter are who owns the accounts afterwards, whether it is built to be found and whether anyone has thought about what the site is for. What a business should consider before upgrading a WordPress website covers the rest.

Website design and build →

I want to show up in AI answers and normal search

Pages stuffed with the same phrase and saying nothing a customer would find useful do not work now, and they worked less well than people claimed even before AI search. I write from your experience together with a focus keyword.

Website content creation →

I know something needs to change, but what?

Then the first job is finding out, not doing. Start with the audit and decide afterwards.

Digital marketing audit →
02

Something isn't working

When money is going out and the results are not coming back.

I'm paying someone and I can't see what I'm getting

Usually the reporting measures activity rather than outcome, or the account is set up so the results cannot be traced. Both are checkable in a couple of hours. I have recorded what this looks like from the inside in a live review of an SEO agency trying to trick a business owner.

Digital marketing audit →

My website looks fine but nobody enquires

Looking fine and working are different things. The usual causes are that the site is not being found for the right searches, or it is being found and does not convert. A photographer's website problems after changing service niche is the clearest version of the second one I have on record.

Website design and build →

My advertising spend goes up and the leads don't

Nearly always spend going to searches that were never going to buy, or automation left to make its own decisions. Both show up immediately in the account. See wasting money on Google Ads automated options.

Google Ads audit →

I used to get found on Google and now I don't

Something changed, and it is usually a redesign, a migration, or a core update, in that order of likelihood. See how an agency redesign lost traffic and rankings, which demonstrates the first.

Digital marketing audit →

I've paid for SEO before and got pages of gibberish

Content written by someone stuffed with the same phrase, saying nothing a customer would find useful. It does not work now and it worked less well than people claimed even before AI search. I write from your experience together with a focus keyword.

03

I need someone to check

When you need an independent view of what someone else is doing.

I'm a marketing manager, what's my agency doing?

You get a monthly report, it looks positive, and you have no way to check the numbers supporting the claims. Agency reporting is frequently built to be read quickly and not questioned, and interpreting it properly means going into the accounts underneath it.

Digital marketing audit →

I'm not sure my numbers are counted properly

More common than it should be. I have found client properties collecting no data at all for months while their owners read reports built on it. Read about how this agency tricked one of my clients with fake traffic reports.

Digital marketing audit →

Not sure what help you need? That's normal

Most people who contact me can describe what's happening but not why, and that's my job, not a problem you need to solve before we talk.

A discovery call is a short conversation. You tell me what's going on and I tell you what I think is causing it. Twenty minutes is usually enough to find the disconnect, because the same handful of causes come up over and over.

You'll leave knowing what's actually happening and what would fix it. From there you can go and do it yourself, hand it to whoever already works on your business, or ask me to quote. All three are good outcomes and I'll tell you plainly which one I'd choose in your position.

No pitch and no follow up sequence. If the answer is that you don't need me, you'll hear that on the call.

What each service costs

What is my approach

I look before I recommend

No plan until I have been through your accounts. Guessing is how money gets wasted early.

Fixed scope, fixed price

You know the number before anything starts, and what you get for it is written down first.

Your accounts, your name

Everything set up in your name. If you leave, the data and the history leave with you.

Enquiries, not impressions

Reporting on what actually came in. Impressions and rankings can rise while enquiries fall.

What I do, and what I don't

One person means depth in some things and none in others. Here is the line, drawn honestly, so you can work out in ten seconds whether I'm the right fit. If what you need is on the right hand list, an agency is a better fit and I'll say so rather than take the work. If some of it is on both lists, that's a normal situation and worth a conversation.

What I do

  • Digital audits across Google Analytics, Search Console, website and Google Business Profile
  • SEO and content written from your knowledge, not a word count
  • Google Ads and Meta Ads, including auditing accounts someone else runs
  • Website design, build and conversion
  • Reviewing an existing agency or contractor against what you're paying
  • Marketing strategy, positioning and competitor analysis
  • Tracking, measurement and reporting you can actually read

What I don't do

  • Media buying at scale, including TV, radio, outdoor and programmatic
  • Public relations and media relations
  • Brand identity design, logos and visual systems
  • Print production, packaging and point of sale
  • Event management, trade shows and activations
  • Video production and studio photography
  • Daily social posting and community management

“What impressed us was his ability to very quickly grasp lots of technical information and deliver a marketing audit that gave us a framework of practical steps across our sales and marketing teams to improve our results. Paul’s mix of website and SEO development has seen the brand enjoy record visitor numbers, our highest ever organic search volumes and a constant flow of quality, Australian leads... results that previous (very costly) agencies failed to deliver.”

A simple path to solving your situation

Three steps, and nothing is committed until the third.

You tell me what's wrong

A short email or call. What's happening, what you've tried, what changed.

I quote a fixed price

Scope, price and timeframe in writing before you commit to anything.

You decide

No proposal deck, no follow up sequence. A yes or a no are both fine.

Frequently asked questions

Your questions answered.

Do I have to pick a service, or can you tell me which one I need?

Book the digital marketing audit and I will tell you. Most people cannot know which service they need, because working that out requires looking at the accounts. The audit is priced to be the first thing you buy for exactly this reason.

What do you need from me to start?

Access to whatever is running. Analytics, Search Console, ad accounts, the website, the Google Business Profile. If you do not have access to some of it because an agency or developer holds it, say so, because getting that back is often part of the work and occasionally the most valuable part.

Do I have to leave my current agency or contractor?

No. Some of my work is making an existing relationship function properly, and if they are doing good work I will tell you. Reviewing what someone else is doing does not commit you to replacing them, and it does not have to be a conversation you have with them first.

How long does each engagement take?

Audits are usually completed in 7 days. Websites and campaign builds are 2 to 3 weeks. Ongoing management is monthly with no lock-in. Every timeframe is quoted before you commit, and if something takes longer than I said it would, that is my problem rather than a variation.
