Proof that service businesses get leads from Ai search

Nearly 150 visitors reached one client's site through AI search in 45 days, tracked separately from organic. Here's why, and how to get the same result.

Proof Your Business Can Get Leads From AI Search

Proof that your business can get leads from Ai search

A few weeks ago I put out a video explaining how AI is changing the way people search for and find businesses. One of my clients watched it, then did something smarter than just taking my word for it: they went and searched for themselves.

Not their brand name, the generic terms people actually use for what they sell. They found their own business showing up across multiple AI tools and multiple searches, and they were genuinely surprised by it.

So I pulled the actual data rather than leave it as a nice anecdote.

The real numbers, tracked separately from organic search

Dashboard showing Ai traffic source behaviour

I built a dedicated dashboard for all my clients to track AI-driven traffic as its own category, separate from organic search, paid ads, and direct visits. For one of them since January, nearly 200 people reached their site specifically through AI tools, not Google’s regular search results, AI systems pulling information from the site and sending people through directly.

That traffic wasn’t just showing up. It was converting well, because people arriving that way had usually already read some information about the situation they needed help with and the suitable businesses, through whatever the AI tool had surfaced, to arrive genuinely interested rather than just curious.

That’s a meaningfully different kind of visitor to someone clicking a paid ad as a cold lead or someone trawling through multiple websites.

I can now show any of my clients how their specific website is performing and what actions people from Ai sourced traffic are taking vs anywhere else. In the example above you can see that from nearly 200 visitors 12 sent an online enquiry with another 7 hitting the SMS or Call buttons on the site.

Why this happened: it's not a trick, it's the work that was already there

    Getting found via Ai

This is the part worth sitting with. This client’s site wasn’t built for AI search, it didn’t exist as a concept when most of that content went up. What actually drove this result is years of genuine content work already sitting on the site: real pages, real articles, real testing of what actually resonates, built up over a long time, ranking on Google the ordinary way the whole time.

AI systems are drawing from exactly that kind of material when they decide what to serve someone asking a question. If a business already did the real work, writing genuinely useful content, building actual depth on its actual services, that work doesn’t disappear or reset with each new shift in how search works. It compounds. Good work done years ago is precisely what’s showing up in AI answers today, often without the business even realising it.

What determines whether AI treats you as a genuine expert, or just another generic listing

Based on what I’ve seen work across client accounts, three things matter most:

    • Clarity about exactly who you help. Vague, broad positioning gives an AI system nothing specific to match you against. The clearer you are about the specific problem you solve and for whom, the easier it is for AI to confidently point someone toward you.

    • A consistent identity across more than just your own website. AI systems weigh more than what you say about yourself. Reviews, mentions from other sites, a consistent picture of who you are across multiple sources, all of it helps confirm you’re a real, established business rather than an unverified entry. Without that, you read as generic rather than as a genuine expert in your niche.

    • Genuine depth, not generic coverage. Content that goes deep on a specific service, topic, or location gives both a reader and an AI system something concrete to point to. Shallow, generic pages covering a topic the same way a hundred competitors already have don’t give either one a reason to choose you.

The part that matters most: old work still counts, and updated work counts more

Here’s the actual thesis behind everything above, and it’s simpler than it sounds: if genuinely good work was done on your site in the past, you already have a real chance of being found through AI search today, even if nobody built that work with AI in mind. That’s what happened with this client.

If that existing work gets revisited and updated specifically to meet what AI systems and current search quality standards actually reward now, clearer expertise signals, more specific and current content, consistency across more than just your own site, the chance of being found and recommended goes up again. It’s not starting from zero. It’s building on a foundation that was already doing some of the work, and making it work harder.

That’s genuinely good news for any business sitting on years of content they assumed was just “old blog posts.” It might already be earning more than you think, and it’s very likely worth revisiting rather than replacing.

If you want to know whether your own site is already showing up in AI search, and what updating your existing content could do for it, get in touch and I’ll pull the real data.

I track AI-driven traffic separately from organic search for my clients, because it’s a genuinely different source now, not a rounding error inside your regular search numbers. If you want to know whether your business is already being found through AI, see how I could help.
