Marketing for manufacturers

Your buyers research on Google before they call. Can they find you?

Most manufacturers sell through relationships, tenders and the occasional burst of Google Ads. I check what that spend is actually doing, with real data and facts, then show you in plain English how to win specified B2B enquiries from search.

What I usually find

The everyday problems I find in manufacturing marketing

When I audit a manufacturer, fabricator or B2B supplier, the same problems turn up again and again. Most owners don't know they're there.

Ads paying for the wrong searches. Job seekers, students and overseas buyers, all charged to your account.

No conversion tracking. Nobody can say which enquiries or quote requests came from which dollar of spend.

Reports that count activity, not enquiries. Rankings, impressions and clicks, but never the number of enquiries.

Relying on tenders and relationships. The website isn't bringing in new buyers, so every quiet month depends on the next tender.

A Google Business Profile left half finished. Wrong categories, few photos and no routine for collecting reviews.

Product pages written like a catalogue. No specs, no real installations and no easy way to enquire on a phone.

Accounts in someone else's name. The domain, website or ad account belongs to the agency, not the business.

The problem, and the improvement I delivered

Real situations from manufacturing clients, with the figures behind them.

Civil manufacturer The problem

Ads sent to pages that didn't exist

A Google Ads agency with bounce rates around 90%, a web agency reporting "improving positions" while traffic hit a low, and Hong Kong bot traffic nobody mentioned.

The improvement

Site rebuilt, fake traffic cleaned up, paid ads stopped.

1,172+ tracked leads

Security manufacturer The problem

23% of traffic paid for, zero enquiries

Everyone assumed the advertising was working. Nobody had checked.

The improvement

Ads switched off, the money moved into the website and its SEO.

Retail display design The problem

A website converting 1.07% of visitors while ads ran

239,000 search impressions in a year produced 244 clicks. Paid traffic was landing on a site that couldn't turn it into enquiries.

The improvement

Website rebuilt, then Google Ads switched off as organic search replaced it.

Enquiry forms up from 84 to 331

Civil products The problem

Product pages written like a catalogue

Councils and schools were searching, but the pages didn't answer their questions or show real installations.

The improvement

Every product page rewritten around buyer problems, with real job photos. No ads.

20 council and school enquiries

Steel fabrication The problem

Years of trading with no website at all

Word of mouth and social media only, so builders checking him out online found nothing.

The improvement

A first website, Google profile and 30+ citations on a limited budget.

First-page local rankings within weeks

Technology hardware The problem

A site built in-house with no marketing behind it

A distributor with the rights but no marketing resource, and visitors leaving after 28 seconds.

How many of these sound familiar?

Every one of these turned up in a real manufacturer's marketing before I was brought in.

Your monthly report is full of graphs but never says how many calls or quotes you got.

You don't have the login to your own Google Ads account or website.

You're locked into a 6 or 12 month contract.

They talk about "rankings" and "impressions", not enquiries won.

You rely on tenders and existing contracts for almost every new lead.

Enquiries come from students, job seekers or overseas buyers you can't sell to.

Your website shows catalogue renders, not real installations.

Nobody can tell you what one lead costs you.

Your "marketing" is boosting Facebook posts.

How I work differently

A typical agency or contractor versus working with me

A specialist looks after one channel and gets paid whether the rest of your marketing works or not.

I look at all of it: your website, ads, social media, content and how your brand comes across. If something outside the job I'm doing is holding the results back, I'll tell you, because it affects whether my work pays off.

Every month you leave it

Your next specifier is searching Google right now.

Who are they finding?

Councils, schools and contractors research before they call. For one civil manufacturer, rewritten product pages alone brought 20 council and school enquiries in a few months, with no advertising.

When your website doesn't answer their questions, a competitor's does.

More customers now ask an AI assistant who to call, as well as Google and Google Maps. Whether it's called SEO, GEO, AEO or AIO, it comes down to one thing: being the business that search engines and AI platforms trust enough to recommend.

Getting cited isn't about gaming the system. AI platforms quote businesses that publish clear, specific and trustworthy information about the work they do. That's what I help you create.

I've sat on the client side of the agency report

Before going independent in 2015 I spent 20 years in senior marketing roles, signing off agency budgets at Logitech, Hewlett Packard, Lotus Cars and Dick Smith. At Lotus Cars Australia I helped deliver $3M+ in new vehicle sales growth on a marketing budget under $50,000.

So I know what a padded report looks like, and which numbers an agency leaves out. For you, that means one person who checks the work, explains it in plain English, and puts every account in your name.

Questions

Manufacturing marketing questions, answered

What manufacturers and B2B suppliers ask before booking.

I already have an agency. Is this still worth it?

That's usually when it's most useful. I check independently whether what you're paying for is turning into enquiries and quotes. Stay with them or don't, either way you'll know.

We sell through relationships and tenders. Does search matter?

Yes. A civil manufacturer selling to councils and schools got 20 enquiries in a few months from rewritten product pages, with no ads. Buyers check you online even when they already know your name.

Do we have to stop Google Ads?

Not necessarily. Two manufacturers I worked with switched ads off once search replaced them. Others need ads for specific products. The data decides.

What do I need to give you?

Access to Google Ads, Analytics, Search Console and your Google Business Profile, plus your last agency report and invoice. Every account stays in your name.

How quickly will we see more enquiries?

Stopping wasted ad spend and fixing tracking can show up within weeks. ENCAT's organic search was back above its previous best within the same year. SEO keeps compounding.

Will you lock me into a contract?

No. Fixed prices, a retainer or a payment plan, with the scope agreed before anything starts and no lock-in.
