Marketing coaching for small business owners

A 10-week, 1-on-1 marketing coaching program for owners who can't justify an agency but can't afford to keep guessing.

Every week we work on one part of your marketing, you leave with specific actions, and I hold you to them.

You do the work, so you understand it and you keep it.

Why marketing coaching

The problem usually isn't knowledge.

It's follow-through.

Most owners I meet already know roughly what they should be doing. They've read the blogs, done a course, maybe paid an agency. What's missing is someone who looks at their business, picks the next most important thing, and checks it actually got done.

A business coach does that for the whole business. This does it for your marketing.

Paul D'Ambra marketing consultant

Paul D'Ambra

Going it alone

What usually happens

A strategy document in a drawer, and a growing list of things you keep meaning to get to

Six different tactics started at once, and none of them ever properly finished or measured

Paying an agency every month for work you don't fully understand and can't really check

Asking ChatGPT what to do and getting the same generic answer as every one of your competitors

With a coach

What happens over 10 weeks

One clear priority each week, picked for your business and your customers, not a template

Specific actions in writing within 24 hours, then checked properly at the start of next week

You learn by doing it yourself, so you understand your marketing and aren't dependent on anyone

AI tools set up to work from your own strategy, so everything they write actually sounds like you

Paul D'Ambra walking towards a client to have a meeting about their marketing

Accountability, in a client's words

"He created a list of tasks for me to rip into. He was on me every day to get it done."

Who it's for

Which one sounds like you?

Six situations I see every week.

Different businesses, same feeling: stuck, behind and not sure what to do first.

Side hustle

Building something on the side

"I know I need to do something about marketing, but by the time I finish work I don't have the energy to work out what comes first."

Referral business

Busy, but only from word of mouth

"I've been in business for years and I'm still waiting for the phone to ring instead of controlling where the next job comes from."

Ads not working

Spending on ads, getting little back

"I've spent real money on marketing and I genuinely can't tell you what it did. I can't keep doing the same thing."

Tradie

Great at the work, invisible online

"I do better work than half the people showing up on Google before me, but I don't have the time or the first clue how to change that."

Going independent

Left the firm, building from scratch

"I'm very good at what I do, but finding new clients feels like starting from zero every time, and I have no system for it."

Burned before

Paid an agency, got nowhere

"I'm not handing money to anyone else until I actually understand what they're doing and why."

Done every course and implemented none of it? That's the most common one of all, and exactly what weekly accountability fixes.

The 10-week plan

One topic a week.
Each one builds on the last.

Every session starts with what you did last week and ends with what you'll do next. This is the order we work through, adjusted to your business as we go.

Tap a week to see what's in it.

Marketing Coach helping a couple with their business with a 10 Week Sprint
Week 01 · Foundations

Your market, your customer, your difference

No execution until we know who you're selling to and why they should pick you. Most marketing fails because this step gets skipped.

What we work on

  • Market size and where the real opportunity is
  • Ideal customer profile: what they worry about, how they search and decide
  • Your USP in one sentence a stranger understands
  • An audit of every channel you already have
  • One 10-week goal and two numbers to track weekly

You leave with

A one-page marketing foundation: market, customer, USP and 10-week goal. It also becomes the brief your AI tools work from.

Week 02 · Competitors

Know who you're up against

What competitors say, where they show up and where they're weak shapes everything that follows.

What we work on

  • Direct, indirect and search competitors
  • How they position, price and prove themselves
  • What they rank for, and whether AI tools recommend them
  • Their social media, ads and content
  • Gaps: unanswered questions, ignored customers, weak reviews

You leave with

A one-page competitor gap summary showing where the market is crowded and where you have the clearest opening.

Week 03 · Commercial clarity

What you sell and what you charge

Before sending traffic anywhere, your offer needs to make sense to a stranger and make money for you.

What we work on

  • Full service inventory, by revenue and profit
  • Names and descriptions that sell outcomes, not process
  • Entry-level and premium versions of your core service
  • Pricing against the market
  • Upsell, repeat and recurring revenue from existing clients

You leave with

A clearly named service menu, pricing that matches your position, and a list of opportunities with existing clients.

Week 04 · Public presence

What people find when they look you up

Before a stranger contacts you they check Google, Facebook, LinkedIn and directories. Gaps here lose enquiries before anyone reaches your website.

What we work on

  • Google Business Profile set up properly: categories, services, photos, posts
  • A review system and response templates
  • Social bios, links and handles consistent everywhere
  • Directory listings with identical name, address and phone
  • LinkedIn written for clients, not recruiters

You leave with

Every public profile complete and consistent, first review requests sent, and a Google Business Profile posting routine.

Week 05 · Website

Does it explain, convince and convert?

Most small business websites already get visitors they don't convert. We fix that before you pay for more traffic.

What we work on

  • Homepage message: what you do and who for, in eight words
  • Contact friction: clicks, form length, tap-to-call on mobile
  • Mobile experience and page speed
  • Trust signals: reviews, credentials, real photos
  • GA4 and conversion tracking that actually records enquiries

You leave with

A prioritised fix list, with the three most important changes made this week.

Week 06 · Content + AI

Content that gets found, written faster with AI

We plan content around what your customers actually search for, then set up AI as a writing assistant that works from your Week 1 brief, so it sounds like you and not like everyone else.

What we work on

  • Keyword research with Search Console, autocomplete and People also ask
  • Content gaps from your Week 2 competitor research
  • A three-piece plan: target phrase, format and publish date
  • Your AI brief: customer, USP, tone of voice and real proof, reusable in any tool
  • What to hand to AI and what to keep human: facts, opinions, real results

You leave with

A three-piece content plan, a reusable AI writing brief, and content piece #1 published.

Week 07 · Search + AI visibility

Getting found on Google and in AI answers

People now ask ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google's AI Overviews who to call. The fundamentals that win on Google are also what these tools read, so we work on both.

What we work on

  • Search Console review: errors, high impressions, low clicks
  • On-page SEO for your five most important pages
  • Local SEO: suburb pages and consistent listings
  • Test what AI tools say about you and your competitors today
  • Make your site easy for AI to quote: clear answers, FAQs, reviews and mentions elsewhere

You leave with

Critical SEO issues fixed on your five key pages, an AI visibility baseline, and content piece #2 published.

Week 08 · Awareness

The two tactics that suit you

Awareness isn't just ads. Some tactics cost money, some cost only time. We pick the two that fit your market, budget and personality.

What we work on

  • Google Ads, only once the site converts and with a realistic budget
  • Meta and LinkedIn ads, including retargeting
  • PR, podcasts and local media pitches
  • Referral partners and industry associations
  • Email to past clients and contacts, even a list of 50

You leave with

Two priority awareness tactics for the next 90 days, each with a dated first action.

Week 09 · Social media

A system that doesn't take over your life

Not posting constantly. Showing up consistently on one platform with content that means something to the right people.

What we work on

  • Choosing one primary platform, and writing down why
  • Four content pillars: proof, education, behind the scenes, offers
  • A four-week calendar at a pace you can keep
  • Using AI to turn one idea into a week of posts
  • Scheduling with free tools

You leave with

A four-week social calendar with the first two weeks scheduled, and content piece #3 published.

Week 10 · Momentum

Your numbers, your routine, your next 90 days

Making sure nothing built over 10 weeks slides back. You leave this session in control.

What we work on

  • Your five weekly numbers, defined and recorded
  • Week 1 vs Week 10: traffic, enquiries, rankings, profile actions
  • A review request routine that runs every Friday
  • A one-page monthly marketing checklist
  • Your 90-day priority: SEO, ads, referrals or a second channel

You leave with

A one-page monthly checklist you can run alone, a before and after comparison, and an agreed 90-day plan.

Marketing with AI

AI has changed how customers find you. It hasn't changed why they choose you.

Almost every owner I speak to asks the same thing: what am I supposed to do about AI? In this program it isn't a gimmick tacked on the end. It's handled in three practical ways.

01 · Get found

Be the business AI recommends

ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google's AI Overviews now answer "who's good at this near me?" They build that answer from your website, your Google profile, your reviews and what other sites say about you.

  • Check what AI tools say about you and your competitors
  • Fix the gaps they rely on: clear answers, reviews, mentions
  • Track it from Week 7 onwards

02 · Save time

Make AI do the heavy lifting

Drafting content, replying to reviews, turning one idea into a week of posts, summarising competitor research. Set up properly, AI gives a busy owner hours back every week.

  • A reusable AI brief built from your Week 1 foundations
  • Prompts for the jobs you do every week
  • Works in ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini or Copilot

03 · Stay credible

Know where AI gets it wrong

Generic copy that sounds like every competitor, confident made-up facts, and content nobody needed. AI makes it easy to publish more. It doesn't make it easy to stand out.

  • What to hand over, and what to always check
  • What should only ever come from you: results, opinions, proof
  • Keeping your voice when the tools write the first draft

How each session works

60 minutes.
Four parts.
Nothing vague.

Online on Google Meet, at a time that suits you. I'm in Sydney, you can be anywhere in Australia, and you can bring your business partner or a staff member. The structure is the same every week, so you always know what's expected.

Commit

The middle ground most small businesses actually need

Online course

Information,
no accountability

  • Made for everyone, so it fits no one exactly
  • Self-paced, so it rarely gets finished
  • Nobody checks what you actually did
  • Dated the moment AI changes the rules

Agency retainer

Done for you,
out of sight

  • Monthly fees whether it's working or not
  • Reports that are hard to connect to enquiries
  • You learn very little about your own marketing
  • When you stop paying, it stops

Marketing coaching

Done by you,
with someone in your corner

  • Built around your business and your numbers
  • Weekly accountability, so it actually gets done
  • You understand every decision and why
  • The skills and systems stay with you

Who you'll work with

30+ years doing the work. Not teaching the theory.

I started on a Harvey Norman shop floor in 1994, then spent around 20 years in corporate and senior marketing roles across Australia and Asia Pacific. In 2015 I went independent, and I've since worked on more than 60 published projects for trades, automotive, travel, professional services, retail and manufacturing businesses.

I've run the campaigns myself, managed marketing teams and answered for the numbers. The results in the case studies above are work I did, not work I watched. That's what you're getting in every session: commercial, big-company thinking, applied hands-on to a business with no marketing department.

I only take on three coaching clients at a time, so every session gets my full attention. I'm based in Sydney and coach online via Google Meet, so you can be anywhere in Australia.

Is this right for you?

One condition matters more than any other.

Coaching works for owners in very different situations. What decides whether it works for you is whether you'll do the actions between sessions.

Good fit

This works if

You can commit one hour a week with me for ten weeks, and protect that time in your diary

You'll take the specific actions we agree between sessions, even when the week gets busy

You want to understand your own marketing properly, not just hand it off to someone else

You're open to direct, honest feedback about what isn't working, even when it's uncomfortable

Not a fit

It won't work if

You want results without doing anything between sessions and expect the calls to do the work

You can't reliably find one hour a week, so sessions keep getting moved or cancelled

You want someone to take it all off your hands. That's a different service, and I offer it too

You don't want to be held to what you said you'd do, or you'd rather not see the real numbers

What consistent work adds up to

"He grew our rental company to reach $1M in potential revenue within 12 months."

Questions

Marketing coaching FAQs

Is a marketing coach worth paying for?

Any type of coaching, course, guide book or self help is worth the money but only if you'll do the work that is contained in it. If you won't, keep your money, because no coach can fix that. If you will, ten weeks of someone deciding what matters most and checking it got done costs about the same as one month of a typical agency retainer, and everything you learn stays with you where it can be implemented to improve your business.

What's the difference between a marketing coach, a mentor and a consultant?

A consultant tells you what to do & in some cases will do it for you.

A mentor tells you what worked for them and listens to your problem.

A coach works out what you should do, makes sure you do it, and checks it worked.

This program is coaching, backed by 30 years of doing marketing myself and also doing marketing consulting.

How much does marketing coaching cost in Sydney?

It's all over the place. I've seen everything from $250 an hour to more than $20,000 for six months.

Mine is $2,997 for the full 10 weeks or $350 a session, both including GST.

No lock-in and no upsell built in.

Is marketing coaching tax deductible?

Coaching for your business is usually treated as a business expense. I'm not your accountant, though. Ask them, it's a two-minute question.

How much time will it take each week?

One hour with me, plus the actions. Most owners need two to four hours a week. If you genuinely can't find that right now, don't start yet. Come back when you can.

Do I need to be technical or already using AI?

No. If you can write an email, you can do this. I explain everything in plain English and show you how, step by step.

Can't I just ask ChatGPT what to do?

You can. You'll get the same answer as every competitor who asked the same question, and ChatGPT won't check you did it. It doesn't know your market, your numbers or why your best customers pick you. In this program AI is a tool you use, working from a strategy built around your business.

Can my partner or a staff member join the sessions?

Yes. Husband and wife, business partners, your office manager, whoever is actually going to do the work. Same price. It just has to be one business.

Where are the sessions held?

Online, on Google Meet. I'm based in Sydney, but you can be anywhere in Australia. No travel, no parking, no excuses.

What support do I get between sessions?

Email and WhatsApp. If you get stuck on an action, message me and I'll reply during business hours. No portals, no apps, no group chats.

How does the money-back guarantee work?

Complete the first five sessions and do the actions we agree. If you still haven't got value from it, I'll refund what you've paid. If you didn't do the work, it doesn't apply. That's the deal. Read the full terms.

What happens after the 10 weeks?

You run it yourself with your one-page monthly checklist. If you want help later, book a one-off consulting session whenever you need one, or ask me to quote for doing the work for you if you'd rather not do it. No lock-in either way.
